In the summer of 2021, we asked ourselves: why isn’t anyone talking about Black Breast Health?
It turns out, we weren’t the only ones wondering. That same summer, Bright Pink—our founding mission partner—came to us with a different spin: why not you?

Our experience with innovative and impactful campaigns in the Black Breast Cancer community combined with Bright Pink’s 17 years of experience in reaching young women with breast health education led us to create For the Love of My Gurls.

Together, we created a Black Breast Health campaign playbook that covered everything from community focus groups to evaluation and data analysis. LMG encourages the community to: 1) Choose Black Breast Health, 2) Unlock your HERstory, and 3) Get to know your gurls.

With Bright Pink’s support and insight, we assembled a Young Women’s Advisory Board, developed a brand from scratch, produced educational materials, partnered with a dozen incredible organizations (including the WNBA!), hired 33 interns across 18 HBCUs, hosted 18 episodes of our Pink Table Talk web series, held 68 events, and established a social media campaign.

we have reached over 800K women, educated over 77K, and 94% of those surveyed report that they intend to do breast self-exams monthly after exposure to Love of My Gurls (LMG).

Why is Black Breast Health Important?
Black women under 35 get breast cancer at 2x the rate of white women and die from breast cancer at 3x the rate. Black women under 30 die from breast cancer at 4x the rate of white women.
And while 92% of Black women agree breast health is important, only 25% of Black women have recently discussed it. Paying attention to and talking about our Black Breast Health is the first step in changing these statistics. By committing to regular breast self-checks and knowing your HERstory, you’re ensuring that any potential issues are caught early and that you can address them with confidence.
the more young women will know what they’re up against. Because protecting our gurls means protecting ALL Black gurls.
